It is possible that the Brocade switch could have made changes to the EEPROM component on the cable. We really
have no way of telling whether it is possible. It is possible that Amphenol blocked the ability to change their EEPROM and the Brocade switch change or calibrate the cables against their switch. You may want to check that with either vendors. As for the Mellanox 10G NIC – typically we would not make any attempt to make changes to cable’s EEPROM. Obviously, most of our experience is with the cables we sell and there we haven’t seen this happening.
