I am sure this has been covered somewhere but my Google skills returned a host of responces and after not finding what I was looking for I thought I would ask.
Would it be best to run the Subnet Manager on a switch or OpenSM on a server?
Currently I have OpenSM running as a service on 2x of our Windows 12kR2 Servers.
I had a single Voltaire 4036 in production for some time - I am sure it is running early firmware. I just installed a 2nd identical switch but I upgrade the firmware before installing. Subnet Managers are not running on either of these at the current time.
We also are in the process of installing 2x Open-e DSS7 SANs that run OpenSM at startup by default.
I need to sort out where to run the Subnet Managers.
I am thinking it best to run the SM on the switches, however the fact they are running different firmware versions make me think they may have different versions of SM and I don't know how this would affect things.
Thanks,
Todd
